neu welt von tektonic transformation

I always think about tectonic migration that mingles spatial tiers. I had joys of envisioing my
insight that has been nutured my ego.  I like labyrinth like when I spent one night in crevasse
at Mt. Everest in Winter 1987.  Sohn Jaeshik and I forced to pitch tent ajacent to opening of
the deep gap. The night was sleepless nightmare that made us to struggle with tent poles and
retract to my sleeping position.  The stormy wind at the icefall literally collided whole section
of icefalls.  It was catastrophic night.  The nightmare transformed into catalistic presence for
a certain period.  The ordeal might be imbedded onto my metaphysic memory that turned into
   form of tectonic complex above.

Transformation, angled

I sketched above on paper, kept it a few years. And once and for all, I carved it taking 12 hours with
balsa foam. And my wife Jong Kang casted plaster on it, on right.  Put that on my classroom.

Above is ongoing project I liked. I don't know result yet.

I sketched above last year in an effort to envisage curvy scribble transformation, that turn into
space. In this case, free hand sketched roughly set perspective views that goes multiple directions.
I am on coloring this.

Design for HIAC's 50th anniversary publication. Seungmo joined the university alpine club
in 1967 as a freshman for applied arts major.  The college has small campus st Wow san.
Along with previous experiences for mountaineering and climbing, he dedicated many activities
in the club.  Seungmo had great love to alumis from the club as mountaineering companion.
50 year peiod, every year 4-6 members in average joined the club, so 200 to 300 members are
listed.  Seungmo had honor of designing the cover pages for the publication from his design

recent marker strokes from Seungmo Shin

tectonic carvings

These practices are carved pieces on Balsafoam that Seung draw scribbles and  sketched
it and inspired from it.  Then shaded to refer for carving.  Upper one is larger than tabloid format
took 12 hrs,

Jongsook Kang helped with this for plaster casting.

And Jongsook Kang casted plaster-water mix.  Good practices so far.

Memory of winter climbing a peak at Mt. Seorak

I remember 1976 winter that a team of Corean Alpine Club members,
Jae Geun, Dong Ok Yu, and Seung Mo Shin climbed a highest peak
at Dinosaurus ridge at Mt. Seorak, Korea.  It took 3 days in cold
and windy condition, Seung had to lead the climb with down jacket
and heavy leather boots. Too cold, so he has to wore 2 pairs of cotton
gloves.  Seung used yosemite hauling method to haul gears over the
ceiling from small ledge. As well he banged angle piton and wooden
wedge in the crack and frozen flared crack with soil.He could fix rope
for the first day climb and all the members get back to camp where it
was pitched on top of narrow col from Seorak gorge.   The season
was too cold all 14 members to train harsh and steep, frozen terrain near
1275 peak or Nahanbong.  To the prominent peak, ferocious wind
battered, so everyday temperature was minus 30 degree in celcius
consecutively.  Next day afternoon Seung reached top of thee cliff
at close to dusk.  You and Kim jumared up cleaning the gears from
the cliff.  Three had to drop iron gears at the end of rope and dropped
from the ridge and figured out roughly about rappel length.
The team get back to camp late at night.  Next day the team had to get
back to ridge again retrieved gears and ropes from the rappel point.
They reached Biseondae in the afternoon.  Seung and You punched a
hole at frozen ice creek and dipped their head into it.  Right away, their
hair turn into iced pin like scissor hand man.  They could join to main
party at Seorak dong.
The route on the highest peak in the picture is on right hand side precipe with continuous system.
